VIDEO: Ghanaian youngster Isaac Nuhu impresses despite KAS Eupen’s defeat to Genk

Winger Isaac Nuhu was the brightest spot in KAS Eupen’s defeat to KRC Genk in the Belgium Pro League on Saturday. 

The 20-year-old excelled as the second forward with his contributions leading to two goals scored by KAS Eupen in the 4-2 loss at the Cegeka Arena.

Nuhu started the build up to Smail Prevljak’s goal in the first half before opening up from the right to start what ended with Regan Charles-Cook netting Eupen’s second.

He was later replaced in the game by Tarek Magee.

Meanwhile, compatriot and KRC Genk attacker Joseph Painstil scored a brace for the host to ensure they secured all three points.

Isaac Nuhu has been a key cog in the Eupen team, and was the star man when they shocked Champions Club Brugge last week.

The winger is on the radar of the Blue and Blacks as well as clubs in France and Germany.

Ghanaian midfielder Baba Alhassan’s brace powers Hermannstadt to victory against Voluntari in Romania

Red-hot Ghanaian midfielder Baba Alhassan scored a brace to help Hermannstadt beat Voluntari in the Romanian topflight league on Monday night. 

Alhassan, who has now netted four goals in four games, first opened the scoring with a clever half volley in the 23rd minute before his long range strike in the 34 minute beat the Voluntari shot-stopper.

The visitors pulled one back in the 39th minute through Adam Nemec.

Alhassan has been in fine form this season for the newcomers as they remain unbeaten in the opening four games of the campaign.

He also scored a brace in the opening day victory over Mioveni.

Hermannstadt currently sit third on the Liga I table with the Ghanaian in the top scorers chat with four goals.

The Sibiu-based club next travel to Farul for the fifth game of the season.

Ghanaian midfielder Sabit Abdulai joins Ponferradina on a season-long loan from Getafe

Former Ghana U20 midfielder Sabit Abdulai has joined Spanish Segunda Division side SD Ponferradina on a season-long loan from Getafe, GHANAsoccernet.com understands

The 23-year-old will spend the entire 2022-23 season at Ponferradina as he aims at getting more playing minutes.

Abdulai took his first steps in Spanish football in the ranks of Extremadura UD, which in 2018 incorporated him to play with its subsidiary team in the Third Division.

In the 19/20 season he had the opportunity to debut with his club in the Spanish second-tier where he featured in four games and scored one goal.

In the summer of 2020 he joined Getafe on loan to reinforce his subsidiary team in Segunda Division.

His good performance opened the doors for him to the first team, so in April 2021 he made his debut in Primera La Liga in a match against CA Osasuna.

Across that period he Abdulai played in the top category the matches against FC Barcelona and Granada CF, in addition to another Copa del Rey match.

With the Getafe B team in the Tercera Division RFEF, he played 15 games.

In July 2021, when he was preparing for the first team, he suffered a serious injury that prevented him from competing last season.

Hajia Akoto, Mouganie win Maximum Joy Foundation Golf Competition

Hajia Zenabu Akoto and Jeffery Mouganie have emerged the winners of the maiden edition of the Maximum Joy Foundation Charity Golf Competition held on August 4, 2022, at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club in Accra.

Hajia Akoto won the Ladies’ title with 39 Stableford points, edging Beatrice Dovlo (34points) and Elizabeth Essel-Koomson (33points) into second and third place respectively.

It was a tight race in the Men’s Category A contest which saw Mouganie win on countback after tying with Prince Agyiri on 35points. Jason Roberts placed third with 34 points.

Mark Kamis emerged winner of the Men’s Category B reserved for players with handicaps between 12.2 to 54.

Kamis amassed 46points to beat Derrick Acquila (37points) and Naven Naicker (36points) into second and third place respectively.

The golf tournament was held to raise funds for the operation of the Maximum Joy Foundation, an NGO founded by avid golfer Belinda Kumako.

The NGO is focused on providing teenage single mothers with employable skills.

On the other hand, Omar failed to live up to expectation being the most experienced member of the Black Bombers team having already appeared at the 2014 and 2018 editions of the games respectively.

The 28-year-old was defeated by Mauritius’ Louis Richarno Colin in the semi-finals to deny him a chance at challenging for gold.

With Team Ghana competing in 13 sporting disciplines with over 100 athletes, athletics joined boxing as the only sport to win a medal for the country.

But for the technical violation by the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Team Ghana could have secured another medal in the 4x100m relay.

A quartet of Benjamin Azamati, Sean Safo-Antwi, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Barnabas Agerh were disqualified despite finishing third with a national record time of 39.05s in Heat 1 of the 4x100m relays.

Responding to the disappointment that led to Ghana being disqualified, the leadership of Team Ghana in Birmingham called for the GAA to provide them with an extensive report detailing what led to the unfortunate incident.

But the GAA in a statement apologised to the athletes and the entire nation for what they described as a technical oversight that led to Ghana’s disqualification.

In the men’s 100m race, Azamati came close to snatching a bronze medal but missed out on the finish line to place fourth in a time of 10.16 seconds, as Kenya’s Ferdinand Omayal stormed to a gold medal in a time of 10.02 seconds.

Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100m relay team managed to finish seventh in the final race in what ended their hopes of winning a medal at the Games.

In high jump, Abigail Kwarteng and Rose Yeboah of Ghana failed to win a medal in the women’s high jump competition despite the former clearing the height of 1.85m.

Having gone ahead to clear the bar at 1.91 metres, Kwarteng failed to pull off the height of 1.92 metres as she missed out on a place in the medal zone.

Yeboah, on the other hand, had a personal best as she cleared the height of 1.85metres but struggled with the bar at 1.89 metres.

Team Ghana struggled to make headway in disciplines such as swimming, table tennis, badminton, squash, weightlifting, hockey, beach volleyball, and , among others.

2022 Commonwealth Games: Joseph Paul Amoah wins bronze for Ghana in men’s 200m

The sprinter becomes the first African to win a medal in the 200m final since 2006 at the Commonwealth Games.

He clocked a time of 20.49 to finish behind Zharnel Zughes and Jareem Richards of England and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.

Amoah got off to a great start but could not beat the times of the English and Trinidadian runners.

Jareem Richards, who won gold for Trinidad and Tobago finished the race with an incredible time of 19.8s while England Zharnel Hughes completed the race with 20.12s.

Meanwhile, Ghana has been disqualified from the Commonwealth Games men’s 4x100m final.

The team was disqualified after a technical blunder by the athletes.

The technical violation has denied Ghana a place in the final and the team has been replaced with the Gambia.

Ernest Boahene scores first goal for Norwegian side Stromsgodset

Ghanaian midfielder Ernest Boahene scored his first goal for Stromsgodset in their 3-1 win over Sarpsborg on Sunday in the Norwegian top-flight. 

The 22-year-old came off the bench in the 72nd minute and scored ten minutes later. 

Boahene intercepted a kick from the Sarpsborg goalkeeper and quickly scooped the ball over the latter. 

The former FC Metz player was making his fifth appearance in the Eliteserien.

New Black Stars forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer confirms acquiring Ghanaian passport

Hamburg SV forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer has confirmed receiving his Ghanaian passport ahead of the international break in September.

The 20-year-old forward switched nationality to represent Ghana in June and looks forward to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup.

The former Germany U21 striker is enjoying a good start to the season, scoring a brace in the DFB Pokal victory over Bayreuth last Saturday.

“I would be willing to play for Ghana. I met Otto Addo last December before he was national coach. Since then we have been in close contact. I already take care of the Ghanaian passport. I would be happy if I could attend the next international matches in September,” he told BiLD.

Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer is expected to make his Black Stars debut in September during the international break.

The Black Stars are expected to play a three nation tournament in September and the team will play Switzerland in November before the 2022 World Cup.

Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng to retire at the end of the season

Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng has decided to retire at the end of the current season, Ghanasoccernet can report. 

Boateng, 35, will not sign an extension with his boyhood club Hertha Berlin when his current contract expires, and he will hang his boot.

The former Black Stars player rejoined the German club at the start of last season and helped them stay in the Bundesliga.

The club rewarded him with a one-year extension for his great role in their survival.

Before returning to Hertha, the former Barcelona and AC Milan player stated his intention to retire at the club.

After making just 10 starts last season, the German-born Ghanaian is expected to play more games in his last season as a professional.

Boateng has reportedly lost five kilograms of body weight as the Ghanaian looks more lively and should be better able to convey his playing quality and experience to the pitch over longer periods of time.

The forward has better physical fitness as compared to a year ago and should be more impact this term.

He should also benefit from the fact that Ivan Sunjic, a defensive six, was brought in, which could protect Boateng and Suat Serdar, who are more equipped with creative skills.
