New Black Stars forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer confirms acquiring Ghanaian passport

Hamburg SV forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer has confirmed receiving his Ghanaian passport ahead of the international break in September.

The 20-year-old forward switched nationality to represent Ghana in June and looks forward to play for the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup.

The former Germany U21 striker is enjoying a good start to the season, scoring a brace in the DFB Pokal victory over Bayreuth last Saturday.

“I would be willing to play for Ghana. I met Otto Addo last December before he was national coach. Since then we have been in close contact. I already take care of the Ghanaian passport. I would be happy if I could attend the next international matches in September,” he told BiLD.

Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer is expected to make his Black Stars debut in September during the international break.

The Black Stars are expected to play a three nation tournament in September and the team will play Switzerland in November before the 2022 World Cup.

Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng to retire at the end of the season

Ghanaian forward Kevin-Prince Boateng has decided to retire at the end of the current season, Ghanasoccernet can report. 

Boateng, 35, will not sign an extension with his boyhood club Hertha Berlin when his current contract expires, and he will hang his boot.

The former Black Stars player rejoined the German club at the start of last season and helped them stay in the Bundesliga.

The club rewarded him with a one-year extension for his great role in their survival.

Before returning to Hertha, the former Barcelona and AC Milan player stated his intention to retire at the club.

After making just 10 starts last season, the German-born Ghanaian is expected to play more games in his last season as a professional.

Boateng has reportedly lost five kilograms of body weight as the Ghanaian looks more lively and should be better able to convey his playing quality and experience to the pitch over longer periods of time.

The forward has better physical fitness as compared to a year ago and should be more impact this term.

He should also benefit from the fact that Ivan Sunjic, a defensive six, was brought in, which could protect Boateng and Suat Serdar, who are more equipped with creative skills.

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah welcomes Europe-born players to the Black Stars

Experienced Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah, has welcomed new players to the team ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. 

Six players switched nationalities to represent Ghana at international level in June. Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams of Athletic Club and German-born trio Stephan Ambrosius, Ransford Konigsdorffer and Patric Pfeiffer have all agreed to play for Ghana.

Southampton star Mohammed Salisu also confirmed his decision to represent Ghana last month.

“It’s always good for the country but honestly, me as a player, I don’t have any problem with that but I would have my opinion. Sometimes, you put things into perceptive and all that, but people outside will also raise concerns about their none participation in qualifiers,” he said as quoted by footballghana.

“Sometimes it happens that way. Some come and play qualifiers and do not play in the tournament proper for some reasons. But you know am not a coach nor a management member.

“As a player I just have focused on doing my best for my club and if I’m being called into the national team squad, I will go and help the team and it is good that they are choosing to play for Ghana”

New Ghana forward Ransford Konigsdorffer scored a double as Hamburg eliminated SpVgg Bayreuth in the German DFB Pokal. 

he 20-year-old forward climbed off the bench in the second half to inspire Hamburg to a string co0meback to beat Bayreuth.

Konigsdorffer replaced Filip Bilbija in the 46th minute with Hamburg a goal down. The German-born Ghanaian levelled the scored with seven minutes remaining to send the game into extra time.

The Bundesliga II side shot in the lead seven minutes into extra time through Sebastian Schonlau before the youngster wrapped up victory with a 111th minute.

Konigsdorffer joined Hamburg in the summer transfer window from Dynamo Dresden and has been in blistering form, scoring his first two competitive goals for the club.

Compatriot Aaron Opoku also came off the bench in the second half.

Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer switched nationalities in June to represent Ghana, the country of his father.

Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot excels as Charlton Athletic secure valuable point against Accrington Stanley

Black Stars goalkeeper, Jojo Wollacot, produced an impressive display as Charlton Athletic held Accrington Stanley in Ligue One opener on Saturday. 

The Ghana international was exceptional especially in the second half, but a last minute equalizer from Korede Adedoyin saw the two sides share the spoils.

Jojo Wollacot made four great saves to deny the hosts in the second half and only conceded from close range due to some poor defending.

Charlton took the lead in the first half when Diallang Jaiyesimi’s cross found Scott Fraser who side-footed home from 12 yards.

The hosts levelled in the 69th minute through Sean McConville.

Miles Leaburn gave Charlton the lead in the 94th minute but the celebrations were shortlived as Adedoyin equalized two minutes later.

Wollocat’s impressive display could see him take over the starting role over last season’s regular shot-stopper Craig MacGillivray.

Steve Bruce snubs Asamoah Gyan in best 18 players to have played under him; John Mensah included

Manager Steve Bruce has snubbed striker Asamoah Gyan in the best players he has managed in his career but ex-Black Stars captain John Mensah made the cut as a substitute. 

Bruce signed the two Ghana internationals during his spell at Sunderland. 

Gyan at a successful debut season at the Stadium of Light where he scored ten goals in 31 league appearances. 

But the following term, he was transferred to UAE giants Al Ain in a bumper loan deal and Bruce accused the striker of chasing the money from the Gulf. 

Steve Bruce has had 12 management spells at 11 different clubs.
